Stretch film is the primary unitising material used across warehousing and logistics to secure goods onto pallets for storage and transit. It is manufactured from low-density polyethylene and works by stretching around a load to create a tight, self-clinging bond that holds items firmly in place without adhesive.
In the UAE’s logistics, manufacturing, and re-export sectors, reliable pallet wrapping is essential for protecting goods from shifting, moisture, dust, and surface contamination. AAB Industries supplies a comprehensive range of stretch film across three product lines – cast, oxo-biodegradable, and nano – covering everything from manual hand wrapping to high-speed fully automated packaging lines.

What is Stretch Film?

Stretch film, also known as pallet wrap or stretch wrap, is a thin, elastic polyethylene film that is stretched around items or pallets to create a tight, secure bond. The film’s cling properties cause it to adhere to itself, holding loads firmly in place during handling and transport without leaving adhesive residue.

Cast stretch film is produced by extruding molten polyethylene through a flat die and cooling it on chilled rollers. This process produces a film with excellent clarity, uniform thickness, and consistent unwinding characteristics – qualities that are critical for both manual application and high-speed machine wrapping.

Industrial Applications

Warehousing and Distribution
Stretch film is the standard unitising material in warehouse operations. It secures stacked cartons and goods onto pallets, preventing load shift during forklift handling, racking, and inter-facility transport.
Export and Freight Forwarding
For sea and air freight, stretch-wrapped pallets resist moisture ingress, dust contamination, and surface damage. The film holds consolidated loads together through multiple handling stages from the origin warehouse to final destination.
Manufacturing and Production Lines
Inline wrapping at the end of production lines uses machine-grade stretch film to automate pallet securing. This is standard practice in FMCG, building materials, and beverage manufacturing across the UAE and GCC.
Retail and E-Commerce Fulfilment

Fulfilment centres use stretch film to bundle mixed-SKU pallets and stabilise outbound shipments. The film’s transparency allows warehouse staff to verify contents without unwrapping.

Which Stretch Film is Right for Your Operation?

Choosing the right grade depends on your wrapping method, load profile, and operational priorities.
For manual hand wrapping
Cast Standard is the natural choice for hand dispensers. The Nano Standard range (8µ and 12µ) also supports manual application while using significantly less film per pallet.
For semi-automatic and automatic machines
Power and Super Power are engineered for turntable and rotating arm wrappers. For fully automatic and inline wrapping at maximum throughput, Super High Power delivers the highest pre-stretch. Nano Ultra provides a thinner-gauge machine alternative for operations prioritising material efficiency.
For light to medium pallet loads
Cast Standard and the Nano range are both well suited – Nano’s thinner gauge makes it particularly cost-effective for high-volume wrapping of uniform pallets. For heavy or unstable loads, Super Power and Super High Power provide the dart drop and tear resistance values needed to secure irregular or shifting loads during transit.
For operations with sustainability requirements
Oxo-biodegradable versions are available across the full cast range with identical physical properties, allowing a transition without changing wrapping equipment or processes. Fulfilment centres use stretch film to bundle mixed-SKU pallets and stabilise outbound shipments. The film’s transparency allows warehouse staff to verify contents without unwrapping.

Storage and Handling Guidelines

Stretch film should be stored in a cool, dry, and sheltered area away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Prolonged UV exposure can degrade the polyethylene and reduce the film’s cling and elongation properties.

Rolls should be stored upright on the core end to prevent deformation, and used within 12 months of delivery for optimal performance. The pallet surface and application area should be clean and dry to ensure maximum film cling. Products with alternative thicknesses and lengths can be made to order if required.

Note: All tests are performed at 23°C (±2°C). Roll gross weight has a tolerance of ±5%. Users are advised to confirm suitability through their own testing.

Stretch Film FAQ

Q) What is the difference between cast stretch film and nano stretch film?
Cast stretch film uses a five-layer polyethylene construction available in thicknesses from 15 to 30 microns. Nano stretch film uses a 67-layer construction with high-grade polymers, achieving comparable load-holding performance at thicknesses as low as 8 microns. The result is lower material consumption and fewer roll changes per shift.
Q) What are the different performance grades of stretch film?
The cast range includes four grades. Standard is designed for manual hand wrapping with pre-stretch of 150-180%. Power is engineered for semi-automatic and automatic machines at 220-250% pre-stretch. Super Power is built for high-speed fully automatic lines at 300% or more. Super High Power is the premium grade, delivering 350% or more pre-stretch for the most demanding operations.
Q) What is oxo-biodegradable stretch film?
Oxo-biodegradable stretch film incorporates pro-degradant additives into the polyethylene during manufacturing. These additives promote the breakdown of the film after its useful service life. The physical performance properties are identical to the conventional cast range, so operations can transition without changing equipment or processes.
Q) Which thickness of stretch film should I use?
The right thickness depends on your load weight, stability, and wrapping method. Lighter, stable pallets wrapped by hand typically use 15-20 micron cast film or 8-12 micron nano film. Heavier or irregular loads on automatic lines benefit from 23-30 micron cast film or 13-16 micron nano ultra. Our packaging consultants can recommend the optimal specification for your operation.
Q) Can stretch film be used in hot warehouse conditions?
Yes. Our cast and nano stretch films maintain their cling and elongation properties in the elevated ambient temperatures typical of UAE warehousing environments. Rolls should be stored away from direct sunlight when not in use.
Q) Is stretch film recyclable?
Yes. Polyethylene stretch film is widely recyclable through commercial LDPE recycling streams. Used film should be collected separately from other waste and kept clean for recycling.
Q) Do you supply custom roll widths and lengths?
